This is a signed and numbered, limited edition giclée canvas print featuring the newest painting from artist and Steubenville native Dave Barnhouse, entitled "Enter to Learn - Depart to Serve."
About the art
The Inn at Franciscan Square, developed by Franciscan University of Steubenville, features images of the University throughout the hotel. But it also includes a signature work of art of campus scenes by Dave Barnhouse, the local Ohio Valley artist who is nationally known for his paintings of rural scenes and small-town America.
When the University contacted him about the opportunity, Barnhouse jumped at the chance.
"Franciscan University has been an important part of Steubenville for such a long time and a chance to do a painting of the University was an honor," said Barnhouse.
To accurately depict the University, Barnhouse visited on the Fourth of July, when he and his wife were the only ones on campus. As sunset turned to nightfall, it was the perfect time for Barnhouse to get a sense of the angles and lighting of the campus' landmarks. His painting, "Enter to Learn—Depart to Serve," shows the beautiful history of Franciscan University with campus scenes including Christ the King Chapel, the Portiuncula Chapel, Holy Spirit Friary, the Tomb of the Unborn Child, and the Steel Cross that overlooks the Ohio River. The soft lighting and specific details allow the viewer to feel immersed in the scenes.
"I wanted to include everything that has been a blessing to those associated with the University," said Barnhouse.
