St. Alphonsus Ligouri
19th Century
Artist Unknown
An inspiring man who battled sickness, depression, betrayal and even opposition from his own family, St. Alphonsus Ligouri is a very relatable Saint. He started a stellar career as a lawyer, but after seeing a vision he became a priest and founded the Redemptorists. He faced many challenges, but continuously served the poor, wrote, and preached in spite of the opposition and eventual rheumatism that caused him much pain for decades. He died on August 1st, 1787, and was canonized in 1839.
