These alabaster bookends features St. Isidore the farmer and a short prayer. Able to keep heavy books in line, they both organize and decorate your home. This pair of bookends makes the perfect personal gift for the farmer in your family, as well as for anyone with a devotion to this humble and devoted saint and family man.
The original artwork was painted by Alonzo Cano in 1647. It depicts the story of Isidore's son being miraculously saved from a deep well.
The bookends are made from stone-cast alabaster here in our shop in Steubenville, Ohio. Alabaster is a building and decorating material created from the mineral gypsum that has been used since the time of the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. It boasts an attractive smooth finish.
Each measures roughly 6" x 8", including the 4"x 6" inset image plaque, and is 3" deep.
Text reads:
"St. Isidore, we give glory to Almighty God for the beauty of your Christian life, your devotion to your family, and your compassionate love for the poor. As a farmer who labored in working the land, we ask your heavenly intercession for all those who till the soil to provide grain and food for our tables. May the Lord prosper the works of their hands. Amen. "
