These alabaster bookends honor the evangelist St. Matthew, patron of accountants and book-keepers. Holding heavy books in line, they both organize and decorate your home. This pair of bookends makes the perfect personal gift for the accountant in your family, or anyone with a devotion to this Apostle.
The artwork, St. Matthew and the Angel, was painted in the early 1600's by acclaimed Italian Renaissance artist Guido Reni. The prayer asks for his assistance in living the Christian life and keeping close to Our Lord Jesus.
The bookends are made from stone-cast alabaster here in our shop in Steubenville, Ohio. Alabaster is a building and decorating material created from the mineral gypsum that has been used since the time of the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. It boasts an attractive smooth finish.
Each measures roughly 6" x 8", including the 4"x 6" inset image plaque, and is 3" deep.
Text reads:
"Dear St. Matthew, obtain for us the grace to see Jesus living in His Church and to follow His teachings in our lives on earth so that we may live forever with Him in heaven. Amen."
