This reproduction of Mario Minniti's "Ecce Homo" (in English: Behold the Man) shows Christ being led out before the crowds wearing the crown of thorns. Pilate is in the foreground wearing upper-class renaissance robes, and Our Lord is being man-handled by a soldier.
The artist, Mario Minniti, was an Italian artist born in 1577. He studied under Caravaggio and served as a model for him in many paintings. For example, he modeled the young man in yellow and red in the center of The Calling of St. Matthew. Most of his work was produced in Sicily starting around 1606. He died in the year 1640.
