This reproduction of Virginie Demont-Breton's "Fisherman's Wife Bathing her Children" shows a woman carrying her two children, an infant and a toddler, after a bath as she carefully traverses rocks on the shoreline. Her husband must be out at sea.
Virginie Demont-Breton (1859-1935) comes from a family of French painters and began her career in her late teens. In her early career she was known for her historical works, then after moving to the seaside with her husband, Adrien Demont (also a painter), she began painting fishermen and their family life.
