Not all were martyred in the strict sense of the word; dying rather than renounce the faith, but all died living the gospel message. The early martyrs found their crown in the coliseum, some at the hands of the American Indians, some martyrs of purity, many because they were Christians in Nazi Europe. One gave her life for her unborn child, another spent thirty years in solitary confinement in Communist China, another was burnt to death with his congregation in Poland at the hands of the Nazis.
